The Acolyte: Lee Jung-jae Lands Lead Role in Disney+ Star Wars Series

Following the recent casting of Jodie Turner-Smith, Deadline brings word that South Korean actor Lee Jung-jae has officially signed on for the male leading role opposite Amandla Stenberg in Lucasfilm’s newest Star Wars series for Disney+, The Acolyte. Production is set to begin late this fall in London.

Last year, Lee gained worldwide recognition for his performance in Netflix’s Squid Game. He’s currently nominated for an Emmy Award. The upcoming Disney+ series will mark his first major project outside South Korea.

The Acolyte is described as a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers that will be set within the final days of the High Republic era. Further details about its characters haven’t been revealed yet, but the project title references a Sith in the beginning stages of their training under an experienced Sith Lord.

The Disney+ series will be written and executive produced by Leslye Headland (Russian Doll), who will also be serving as the showrunner. Production is expected to begin this fall.

In addition to The Acolyte, Lucasfilm is also currently developing a number of Star Wars projects, including The Mandalorian season three, Andor, and more.
