According to Deadline, Seth Rogen is currently in the process of developing a new Walt Disney Pictures film that will focus on Figment, the small purple dragon that has long served as the theme park mascot for Epcot’s Imagination Pavilion in Orlando. Rogen is set to produce through his Point Grey productions banner.
Figment was created in 1983 by Walt Disney Imagineers Tony Baxter and Steve Kirk. Described as the embodiment of the imagining process, the mascot made its debut in the Epcot Center’s Journey Into Imagination pavilion.
The untitled project will be written by Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, who are best known for their work on Detective Pikachu and The Addams Family 2. Along with Rogen, Point Grey’s Evan Goldberg and James Weaver are also attached to produce.
This marks Rogen’s latest collaboration with Disney after previously lending his voice to the fan-favorite character of Pumbaa in Jon Favreau’s 2019 film The Lion King and most recently in the Disney+ film Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers. He is set to reprise his role as Pumbaa in the forthcoming prequel Mufasa: The Lion King.
