Wendell & Wild Trailer Features Key & Peele Raising an Army of the Dead

The video features Kat, a tough young orphan girl who keeps on reliving her parents’ death through her nightmares. It also highlights her connection to the titular demon duo as Kat becomes a Hell Maiden. Kat must work together with Sister Helley and her new friend to stop her demons’ plan of raising an army of the dead.

Wendell & Wild features the voices of Keegan-Michael Key (Prom), Jordan Peele (Nope), Lyric Ross (This Is Us, Ironheart) as Kat, Golden Globe winner Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) as Sister Helley, James Hong (Kung Fu Panda films) as Father Bests, and Ving Rhames (Mission: Impossible films, Lilo & Stitch films) as Buffalo Belzer.

“It is an animated tale about scheming demon brothers Wendell (Key) and Wild (Peele) — who enlist the aid of 13-year-old Kat Elliot — a tough teen with a load of guilt — to summon them to the Land of the Living,” reads the synopsis. “But what Kat demands in return leads to a brilliantly bizarre and comedic adventure like no other, an animated fantasy that defies the laws of life and death, all told through the hand-made artistry of stop motion.”

Described as a dark fantasy horror-comedy, Wendell & Wild is directed by Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas filmmaker Henry Selick from a screenplay he co-wrote with Peele. The character designs of the stop-motion film are handled by Argentinian artist Pablo Lobato.

Wendell & Wild is produced by Selick, Peele, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, and Sarah Serata. Executive producers are Win Rosenfeld for Monkeypaw, Peter Principato and Joel Zadak for Principato-Young, and Lindsay Williams and Eddie Gamarra for The Gotham Group

This marks the latest collaboration between Key and Peele, who gained recognition through their titular Comedy Central sketch comedy show. They’ve both provided their voices in animated films before, such as 2016’s Storks and 2019’s Toy Story 4.
