Less than a decade since the blockbuster debut of Lucy, Variety brings word that EuropaCorp and Village Roadshow are developing a spin-off series based on the Scarlett Johansson-led sci-fi action film. In addition, Oscar winner Morgan Freeman has also entered negotiations to reprise his role as Professor Samuel Norman in the forthcoming project.

Further details about the Lucy series are still being kept under wraps. The 2014 film was directed by French filmmaker Luc Besson, who’s best known for his acclaimed films like Leon: The Professional and The Fifth Element.

The original film followed Scarlett Johansson as a woman who accidentally gains superhuman powers, as well as heightened physical and mental abilities, after being forced to become a drug mule. The synthetic drug that was surgically put into her stomach breaks, leading her to involuntarily take the drug into her system.

The film was made for $40 million and grossed $463.4 million worldwide ($126.7 million domestic and $336.7 million internationally). It starred Johansson, Freeman, Choi Min-sik, Lio Tipton, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Pilou Asbæk, and Amr Waked.
