Snoop Dogg Biopic in the Works From Black Panther 2 Writer

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever co-writer Joe Robert Cole and director Allen Hughes have been enlisted by Universal to create a biopic based on the rapper and entertainment star Snoop Dogg.

The news comes from a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter, and notes that Cole and Hughes — the latter of whom has directed movies such as Menace II Society and Dead Presidents alongside his brother Albert — will be working alongside Snoop Dogg on the project.

Alongside the announcement, it was also revealed that Snoop Dogg would be lending his music to the project, and would also be attached to the feature as a producer, with the film being the first from his Death Row Pictures production company.

“I waited a long time to put this project together because I wanted to choose the right director, the perfect writer, and the greatest movie company I could partner with that could understand the legacy that I’m trying to portray on screen, and the memory I’m trying to leave behind,” said Snoop in a statement. “It was the perfect marriage. It was holy matrimony, not holy macaroni.”

Snoop Dogg’s life is an iconic one, with the rapper rising to superstardom in the 1990s thanks to his prolific rap career. His early collaborations with Dr. Dre, as well as his albums Doggystyle and Tha Doggfather, helped make him a legend in the world of rap.

Later in life, Snoop would go on to pursue other success in media, becoming an actor and media personality. In total, Snoop Dogg has sold over 35 million albums worldwide, won a Primetime Emmy Award, and has been nominated for 17 Grammys. His most recent film appearance comes in the 2022 Netflix vampire hunting film Day Shift.
