Amazon Studios has successfully acquired the rights to the upcoming body swap comedy from Palm Springs director Max Barbakow. Oscar winner Julia Roberts and Emmy winner Jennifer Aniston have signed on for the leading roles in the untitled project, with Margot Robbie attached to produce.
According to Deadline, the high-profile project will be written and directed by Barbakow, based on his original pitch. This marks the second feature film Barbakow has directed since making his directing debut in 2020 with the time-loop comedy led by Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti.
Amazon Studios won the rights in a bidding war against other major studios and streamers. Further details about its plot and characters are still being kept under wraps. The film will be produced by Barbakow, Roberts for Red Om Films, Aniston for Echo Films, and Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara for LuckyChap Entertainment.
The untitled project marks Roberts’ latest venture into the comedy genre after recently starring in the hit romantic comedy Ticket to Paradise with George Clooney. She will also soon be seen in Sam Esmail’s psychological thriller Leave the World Behind with Mahershala Ali and Ethan Hawke. As for Aniston, she is set to reprise his role as Audrey Spitz in Netflix’s comedy sequel Murder Mystery 2.
