Dave Bautista: James Gunn & Peter Safran Are ‘Perfect’ for DC

Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista recently spoke about his collaborator and friend James Gunn’s new role as co-CEO of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran.

In an interview with Looper, Bautista was quite optimistic about Gunn and Safran’s plans for the DC Universe.

“Anything that James Gunn comes to me with, I’m going to be interested in talking about,” Bautista stated. “For one, because I love him, and secondly, because he’s brilliant. He’s so creative. I think he’s where he belongs. Speaking as a fan, DC was taking turns that I wasn’t crazy about. I think that he’s going to be perfect for them, especially him and Peter as a pair.”

Bautista went a step further and complimented Gunn and Safran’s reboot plans while addressing fans who may be uncomfortable with the new direction.

“I know a lot of people are mad at him and don’t like the direction he’s taken because he’s wiped out a lot of what they’re comfortable with, what they’ve known over the past 10 years plus,” Bautista explained. “But I think for him to completely reboot the DC Universe is such a smart way to go.”

The DC Universe’s first phase, called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, will feature a multitude of different movies and television shows. A few of the announced projects include a Batman and Robin-focused movie called The Brave and the Bold, a Supergirl movie titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Swamp Thing film, and multiple TV shows.
