Rick and Michonne: Production Wraps on The Walking Dead Spin-off

According to Comicbook, production on AMC’s forthcoming The Walking Dead spin-off Rick & Michonne wrapped just in time for scheduled 2024 release. The limited drama will feature the long-awaited reunion of franchise vets Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira’s titular characters following their separation in The Walking Dead Season 9.

“Thank you for creating the next world of The Walking Dead with us,” executive producers Scott M. Gimple, Lincoln, Gurira, Denise Huth, and Brian Bockrath said in a joint statement. “Your talent, energy, and enthusiasm through it all has been the thing that’s gotten us through it all, bringing home a story more than a decade in the telling! This story will live on and our work with it; we’re the ones who live!”

What to Expect in the Rick & Michonne series?

“This series presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world,” reads the synopsis. “Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead … And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before?”

The six-episode limited drama is written and produced by Scott Gimple, who also serves as the showrunner. Gurira is also credited as a co-creator and co-writer for the six-episode drama.

Based on Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard’s comic series of the same name, The Walking Dead is executive produced by Kirkman, Scott M. Gimple, Greg Nicotero, David Alpert, Joseph Incaprera, Gale Anne Hurd, Denise Huth, and Angela Kang.

Currently scheduled for a 2024 debut, the Rick and Michonne drama was initially set to premiere this year along with two other spin-offs, The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Both series are centered around the original series’ leading survivors. The Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan-led series is set to premiere this June, followed by the Norman Reedus-led show’s premiere later this year.
