Black Mirror Season 6 Reviews Claim Netflix Series Returns to Form

The highly anticipated new season of the Netflix anthology series Black Mirror is out now, and with Black Mirror Season 6 reviews rolling in, it seems like the new batch of episodes bring the show back to form.

Reviews for the new season of the series have begun popping up, and according to a handful of reviews, the new season is a welcome back of sorts following Black Mirror Season 5, which launched to mostly mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. At Metacritic — a review aggregation site for various media — the sixth season of Black Mirror currently sits at a 70, although there are some high mark reviews.

According to Consequence’s Liz Shannon Miller, the new season has some highs and lows, but “what remains constant is that it’s a treat to see this show’s imagination in action.” Collider’s Carly Lane called the sixth season “the most ambitious Black Mirror season” that writer Charlie Brooker has created. Variety’s Daniel D’Addario also called the season an “improvement,” but did note that the episodes “vary quite wildly in quality from worst to best.”

What is Black Mirror about?

“Expect the unexpected. The long-awaited return of Charlie Brooker’s dark, satirical anthology series which reinvents itself with each new episode,” reads the logline. “The sixth season of Black Mirror is the most unpredictable, unclassifiable, and unexpected yet.”

Black Mirror Season 6 is being described as “more cinematic in scope.” It is written and created by Charlie Brooker. Season 6 is executive produced by Brooker and Annabel Jones through their Broke & Bones banner, along with Jessica Rhoades, and Bisha K. Ali.

The upcoming installment stars Aaron Paul, Anjana Vasan, Annie Murphy, Auden Thornton, Ben Barnes, Clara Rugaard, Daniel Portman, Danny Ramirez, Himesh Patel, John Hannah, Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara, Michael Cera, Monica Dolan, Myha’la Herrold, Paapa Essiedu, Rob Delaney, Rory Culkin, Salma Hayek Pinault, Samuel Blenkin, and Zazie Beetz.

Black Mirror has also been recognized by award-giving bodies. It has won multiple Emmy Awards, including three for Outstanding Television Movie for the “San Junipero” and “USS Callister” episodes, as well as the Bandersnatch interactive film.
