Amanda Bynes Detained, Placed on New Psychiatric Hold

Amanda Bynes has been detained by police and placed in psychiatric hold, according to TMZ.

As per the report, the Los Angeles Police Department received a call on Saturday morning from a woman in distress. After arriving on the scene, the woman was determined to be Bynes. Images from the scene show Bynes handcuffed and led to a squad car.

TMZ also reports the decision was made to place her in an involuntary psychiatric hold, something often called a “5150.” This refers to Article 1, Section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code. The decision allows Bynes to be held for 72 hours to determine if they are a danger to themselves or anyone else.

In a separate report from Entertainment Tonight, sources close to ET said Bynes has taken better care of herself. However, they note, she is “inconsistent” when it comes to taking medication.

“Amanda was doing better recently and trying her best to take care of herself,” said the source. “She has been making an effort to go to AA meetings, trying to hang out with sober people, and she looked good. The only problem is she is inconsistent about taking her medication, which causes issues. When Amanda was admitted to a mental facility a few months ago, things weren’t going as well for her. She was very distressed, concerned about her past and reputation, surrounding herself with the wrong people who were bad influences, and not taking her medication.”

Earlier this year, Bynes was detained by police and placed on a psychiatric hold. This followed an incident where she was found walking nude near her home. Bynes waved down a driver to call 911, claiming she had come down from a psychotic episode.
