Paul Schrader: Asteroid City Is the Best Wes Anderson Movie

Filmmaker Paul Schrader has called Asteroid City the best Wes Anderson movie.

“World-changing events spectacularly disrupt the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention in an American desert town circa 1955,” reads the official synopsis for Asteroid City.

Schrader, who wrote Taxi Driver and Raging Bull and wrote and directed First Reformed, watched the new movie and posted about it on Facebook. “ASTEROID CITY. The most Wes Anderson film Wes Anderson has made. And for that reason the best. He has distilled his design-driven anti-empathy film style to its essense. It’s hard to find a comparable film. The one that comes to mind is ‘Last Year at Marienbad.’ I’m heartened that it opened so well. though not quite sure why.”

Who is in the Asteroid City cast?

The Asteroid City cast includes Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, and Jeff Goldblum.

It is now playing in theaters.
