Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Art Shows MCU Cameo Design

Comics artist and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse character designer Kris Anka has revealed some design artwork for Donald Glover’s Prowler cameo.

Anka posted the Prowler design onto his Twitter account with the caption, “‘We have a Prowler’ One of the most fun surprising assignments was getting to lay down some first pass designs for the [Donald Glover] [Prowler]. I looked at racing suits and riot gear to try to translate the prowler design into real life [Across the Spider-Verse].”

Prowler’s Across the Spider-Verse Cameo, Explained

Glover made his MCU debut in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming when he briefly showed up as Aaron Davis. In Marvel’s comics lore, Aaron is the uncle of Miles Morales/Spider-Man, the main protagonist in both Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Aaron also frequently operates as the villainous Prowler, however Glover’s appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming neither directly confirms nor denies Aaron is Prowler within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, Hobie Brown/Spider-Punk, and Pavitr Prabhakar/Spider-Man India travel to the Spider-Society’s headquarters on Earth-928, which houses hundreds upon hundreds of Spider-People. At one point, Miles is taken to an area where the Spider-Society is temporarily housing dangerous villains who have been apprehended, which is when Glover shows up wearing the Prowler costume designed by Anka.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. Written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Dave Callaham, the film stars Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Jake Johnson, Oscar Isaac, Luna Lauren Vélez, Jason Schwartzman, Issa Rae, Karan Soni, Daniel Kaluuya, and more.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is playing in theaters now in the United States. The third film in Sony’s Spider-Verse trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is currently expected to release in March 2024.
