Indie Movies Begin Receiving Actors Strike Exemptions From SAG

Indie movie producers and financiers are beginning to get greenlights for their SAG-AFTRA waivers amidst the ongoing actors strike.

With the current strike, a few producers have been able to get waivers to continue shooting their films. One example is the upcoming indie movie Bride Hard, starring Rebel Wilson. These “non-interference agreements” will apply to movies that film without connection to a studio or streaming service.

A crew member working on Bride Hard sent a now-deleted tweet that read, “Very grateful to SAG-AFTRA for clearing BRIDE HARD to continue production in Savannah. We are an independently financed, independently produced feature film with no studio or connection to the AMPTP. Thanks to the SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement, productions like ours can continue.”

Eligible producers must not be affiliated with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).

Why is SAG striking?

The Screen Actors Guild is striking because they were unable to come to an agreement with producers over receiving residuals for streaming series and are currently unprotected with the increasing use of AI in movies and TV.
