The Marvels Director Talks Balancing Being a Comic Book Nerd & Filmmaker
The Marvels director Nia DaCosta has spoken about the process of balancing being a comic book fan and a director of a Marvel Cinematic Universe comic book movie.
What did the director of The Marvels say about being a comic book nerd?
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, DaCosta spoke about working with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, who would apparently tell her she was “being too much of a nerd” when she’d delve into the changes between comic books and movie adaptations.
“The biggest challenge was finding the balance between my point of view as a director and as a comic book nerd,” DaCosta stated. “Obviously, there are changes between the comics and the movies, and sometimes I’m like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa!’ Sometimes Kevin [Feige] would be like, ‘You’re being too much of a nerd. Please stop.'”
The Marvels will see the return of Oscar winner Brie Larson as she reprises her role as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, who fans last saw in Avengers: Endgame. Joining Larson in the sequel are WandaVision breakout star Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel.
