Hot Wheels Movie From JJ Abrams Gets Update
The upcoming Hot Wheels movie from J.J. Abrams has a new update.
With the success of Mattel’s new Barbie movie, they are going to be making new movies based on many of their toy lines. Abrams, who has produced movies like Star Trek, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Mission: Impossible — Fallout will be producing the new movie, which has been in development for a few years.
“For a long time, we were talking to Mattel about Hot Wheels, and we couldn’t quite find the thing that clicked, that made it worthy of what Hot Wheels—that title—deserved,” said Abrams. “Then we came up with something…emotional and grounded and gritty.”
Robbie Brenner, head of Mattel Films, shared another update on the movie. She told Variety the movie will have “real characters that you can relate to, that are three-dimensional, that have emotional journeys.” She adds, “Look at any J.J. Abrams movie. All of his movies have an incredible story and incredible characters. That was something that was important to him — to make a movie that’s not just going to be fun and exciting, but that has real emotion and real stakes to it.”
When does the Hot Wheels movie come out?
The Hot Wheels movie does not have a set release date. It is being produced with Warner Bros.
