Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg Are Working on a New Movie Outside the Cornetto Trilogy
Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg are working on a new film together that will exist outside of the Cornetto trilogy.
Pegg told DiscussingFilm he and Wright had already discussed ideas for a new movie that will seemingly have no ties to any of their previous collaborations.
“Edgar came over to my house last year and we started kicking ideas around,” Pegg said. “It’s not going to be another sort of Cornetto film in that those movies were specifically genre riffs, which addressed the idea of the collective versus the individual. There are certain kinds of thematic consistencies between those three movies which make them a trilogy – it’s not just the ice cream, it’s a series of connecting thematic details.
“With what do next, we want to be completely different from that. We don’t want to do a take on action movies or a take on sci-fi or a take on horror. We want to make a movie that is totally its own thing, existing outside of the Cornetto trilogy. My desire, really, is to do something super different.”
What is Edgar Wright’s Cornetto trilogy?
The Cornetto trilogy — also sometimes referred to as Three Flavours Cornetto — is an anthology series of three British films directed by Wright and co-written by Wright and Pegg.
The first, Shaun of the Dead, was released in 2004, followed by Hot Fuzz in 2007 and The World’s End in 2013. The Cornetto trilogy’s name comes from a running joke in the films referencing Cornetto’s ice cream cones.
All three films in the Cornetto trilogy co-star Pegg and Nick Frost, along with several other actors who show up in various roles, including Martin Freeman, Bill Nighy, Rafe Spall, and more. Additionally, Nira Park produced all three films in the Cornetto trilogy, while Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner both produced Hot Fuzz and The World’s End.
