Maria: Pablo Larraín’s Angelina Jolie-Led Biopic Sets Production Start Date

According to World of Reel, Pablo Larraín’s biographical drama Maria will reportedly film later this year from October to December, as pre-production continues for the Angelina Jolie-led movie.

Should the strike last longer than expected, the acclaimed filmmaker will have to receive a special waiver from SAG-AFTRA to achieve its target shooting date.

What to Expect in Maria?

Maria will be directed by Pablo Larraín (Jackie, Spencer) from a screenplay written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. The film is expected to tell the tumultuous, beautiful, and tragic story of famed opera singer Maria Callas as the story follows her during her final days in 1970s Paris.

Maria will be produced by Fablua Pictures’ Juan de Dios Larraín, The Apartment Pictures’ Lorenzo Mieli, and Komlizen Film’s Jonas Dornbach. This marks the Chilean filmmaker’s follow-up to 2016’s Jackie and 2021’s Spencer, which respectively starred Natalie Portman as Jackie Kennedy and Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana.

This would be Jolie’s first acting project since starring in 2021’s Eternals film. She’s currently working on directing her next movie Without Blood which will be led by Salma Hayek and Demián Bichir.
