Academy Delays 75th Emmy Awards to January 2024

According to Variety, the Television Academy and Fox have officially delayed the 75th Emmy Awards ceremony due to the ongoing Hollywood strikes that would prevent its nominees from attending the event. Originally scheduled to take place on September 18, the Emmy Awards ceremony has now been pushed back to Monday, January 15, 2024 on Martin Luther King Jr. Day — a week after the Golden Globe Awards.

So far, there has been no progress regarding SAG-AFTRA and the WGA‘s respective negotiation deals with the AMPTP. Should the actors and writers strikes last until next year, it is likely that the Emmys, along with other award ceremonies taking place early next year, could be further delayed.

HBO & Netflix Dominate the Emmy Nominations

The full list of nominees for the 75th Emmy Awards was announced on July 12, where it was revealed that HBO and Netflix dominated the categories with 40 and 25 nominations, respectively. Leading the drama category are Succession and The Last of Us with over 20 total nominations each, including Outstanding Drama Series. The Pedro Pascal-led series becomes the first live-action TV adaptation of a video game being considered for major Emmy categories. Meanwhile, other shows that received more than 10 total nominations include Ted Lasso, The Bear, Wednesday, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

As for its major acting categories, Pascal has become the most-nominated Latino actor in a year with three nominations, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Outstanding Guest Actor In a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Narrator. In addition, another The Last of Us actor made Emmy history in the form of Keivonn Montreal Woodard, who becomes the second-youngest Emmy nominee of all time after earning an Outstanding Guest Actor nomination.
