Barbie Announces Digital and PVOD Release Date With New Trailer

Barbie is celebrating its upcoming digital and PVOD release with a new trailer.

While it previously had a scheduled September 5, 2023, digital release date, Barbie will now hit Premium Digital Ownership at home for $29.99 on September 12, 2023. It will also be available for 48-hour rental via PVOD for $24.99 on participating services, which include Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Vudu, and more.

Barbie’s Premium Digital Ownership comes with a number of special features, including Welcome to Barbie Land, Becoming Barbie, Playing Dress-Up, Musical Make Believe, All-Star Barbie Party, and It’s A Weird World featurettes.

Barbie blows up the 2023 summer box office

Directed by Greta Gerwig, Barbie released theatrically in the United States on July 21, 2023. While it hasn’t yet completed its theatrical run, the film has made over $1.38 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the 15th highest-grossing movie of all time. It is also currently the largest worldwide film of 2023 and the highest-grossing film ever made by a woman director.

Based on the toys by Mattel, Barbie was co-written by Gerwig and Noah Baumbach. The film stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Will Ferrell, Michael Cera, Ariana Greenblatt, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, and more.

“To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place,” the official synopsis reads. “Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken.”

Producers involved with Barbie include Robbie, David Heyman, Tom Ackerley, and Robbie Brenner. Gerwig, Baumbach, Ynon Kreiz, Richard Dickson, Michael Sharp, Josey McNamara, Courtenay Valenti, Toby Emmerich, and Cate Adams all serve as executive producers.

Barbie releases on Premium Digital Ownership and PVOD on September 12, 2023.
