Lionsgate Swoops in for The Crow Remake With 2024 Release Planned

Lionsgate has secured an eight-figure deal for domestic rights to the remake of The Crow, and a 2024 release is penciled in.

Starring Bill Skarsgard, the movie is an update of the 1994 cult classic that starred the late Brandon Lee, and also features FKA twigs (Honeyboy), Danny Huston (30 Days of Night), Laura Birn (Foundation), Sami Bouajila (A Son), and Jordan Bolger (The Woman King). It’s directed by Snow White and the Huntsman helmer Rupert Sanders.

Deadline revealed the news that the deal had been finalized ahead of the TIFF festival and markets.

Lionsgate’s Executive VP Acquisitions and Co-Productions, Charlotte Koh had this to say on the acquisition,

”We appreciate what The Crow character and original movie mean to legions of fans and believe this new film will offer audiences an authentic and visceral reinterpretation of its emotional power and mythology.”

In the story of The Crow from 1994, A poetic guitarist Eric Draven is brought back to life by a crow a year after he and his fiancée are murdered. The crow guides him through the land of the living, and leads him to his killers.

The film was the last performance by Bruce Lee’s son Brandon Lee, after an accident on set killed him.
