One Piece Season 2: Jamie Lee Curtis Expresses Support in Her Fan Casting as Dr. Kureha

Following official confirmation of the One Piece Season 2 renewal, fans have started choosing the actors who they think should portray the new characters who are set to be introduced in the next installment of Netflix’s hit live-action adaptation. One of these popular fancasts is Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Kureha, a character who first appeared during the Drum Island Arc. This might finally be possible, as the Oscar-winning actress recently expressed her interest in potentially playing the fan-favorite character.

Curtis took to Instagram to share a fan art of Kureha, promising One Piece fans that she will personally lobby for the role once the SAG-AFTRA strike ends. It’s no secret that the Halloween star has been a long-time fan of Eiichiro Oda’s beloved manga and anime. She previously revealed that her favorite One Piece character is the adorable Tony Tony Chopper, who will serve as the Straw Hat crew’s resident doctor.

One Piece Season 2’s Potential New Characters

Both Kureha and Chopper are expected to appear in One Piece Season 2, where fans will finally see their mentor-mentee/mother-son bond in live-action. Should the creative team decide to cover that entire Arabasta saga for the next installment, there would be more important characters to introduce, including Captain Smoker, Princess Vivi, Nico Robin, Portgas D. Ace, Crocodile, Bon Clay, and more.

The live-action One Piece series will be led by Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu Arata as Rorona Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, JAcob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. Joining them are Peter Gadiot as Shanks, Morgan Davies as Koby, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Alvida, Aidan Scott as Helmeppo, Jeff Ward as Buggy, McKinley Belcher III as Arlong, Craig Fairbrass as Chef Zeff, Vincent Regan as Garp, Steven Ward as Mihawk, Langley Kirkwood as Captain Morgan, and more. For its Japanese-dubbed version, the original anime cast will be reprising their respective roles.

Based on Oda’s iconic manga of the same name, the series follows Monkey D. Luffy, a pirate who gains the powers to turn his body to rubber after eating a “Devil Fruit.” He ventures around a fantastical world of exotic islands and vast oceans in search of the legendary treasure known as “One Piece.”

The One Piece live-action series is written and executive produced by Steven Maeda (The X-Files) and Matt Owens (Agents of SHIELD), with Maeda set as the showrunner. Executive producers are Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios along with original manga author Oda.
