Saw X Will Have a Strong Focus on Amanda Young
We’ve seen and heard plenty of chatter about how Saw X will give us more of Jigsaw than ever before, but the character focus is not solely on the devious trapsmith, his almost victim/apprentice Amanda Young will also be a focal point of the tenth entry in the gruesome series.
In an interview with Total Film, director Kevin Greutert spilled the beans on Amanda’s role in the movie and the return of Shawnee Smith as the character.
Amanda Is Part of the Puzzle
“I would say that she’s a major character in this story, and I really wanted to explore that area between what we see in Saw 1 where she’s a very vulnerable recovering drug addict and the kind of sassy rebel in Saw 3,” Greutert explains when asked if Amanda will get any character development in Saw x,” ut Saw 2 in a way doesn’t really count as character development for her except to show that she’s working with Jigsaw but she’s playing the role for the other characters that are trapped in Saw 2, so this is an opportunity to sort of develop her character more.”
Amanda Young first appeared in the very first Saw movie as a potential victim of Jigsaw. The drug addict is selected by Jigsaw for the infamous bear trap mask. She escapes it (gruesomely, as expected) and ends up enlisted by Jigsaw as an apprentice. Much like Tobin Bell as Jigsaw, Shawnee Smith’s Amanda has been a stalwart of the series with appearances in almost every entry.
In Saw X, John Kramer, aka Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), is seeking medical help in Mexico after the first film’s events. When the clinic promising to cure his cancer turns out to be a sham, Jigsaw gets justice the only way he knows how. With inventive sickening traps.
Saw X will be in theaters on September 29, 2023.
