The Home: Pete Davidson Horror Film Lands Deal with Lionsgate

Lionsgate has closed a U.S. deal for The Home starring Pete Davidson, Deadline reported Thursday. Directed by James DeMonaco, The Home is a horror film set in a retirement community. Stemming from Miramax, The Home screened outside of competition at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.

What to Expect in The Home?

According to Deadline’s report, The Home receives the “haunted house treatment to a retirement home whose residents and caretakers harbor sinister secrets.” Davidson stars as Max, “a former foster child who begins working at the home, and uncovers connections to his own past and upbringing as a foster child.”

DeMonaco (The Purge) directed The Home on a script he co-wrote with Adam Canto. Charlotte Koh, EVP of Acquisitions and Co-Productions, will manage the film for Lionsgate, with former Miramax CEO Bill Block and Sebastian K. Lemercie serving as producers. The Home is expected to receive a theatrical release in the early part of 2024.

“We went into The Home not knowing what to expect and James and Pete delivered an exhilarating ride of a movie that is pure suspense-filled fun and just plain bonkers. Audiences won’t know what hit them,” Koh said.

Davidson is best known for his time as a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 2014 to 2022. The comedian returns to Studio 8H to host the SNL Season 49 premiere on October 14, 2022.

Davidson has had a busy 2023, with starring roles in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and Dumb Money. Davidson co-wrote the sitcom Bupkis, which premiered on Peacock in May 2023. The sitcom features a “heightened fictionalized version of Pete Davidson’s life,” with the actor-comedian starring as himself. Bupkis was renewed for a second season.
