BlackBerry to Premiere on AMC as 3-Part Limited Series

The 2023 biographical comedy feature BlackBerry is getting turned into a three-part limited series by AMC. Directed by Matt Johnson, BlackBerry stars Glenn Howerton and Jay Baruchel as the men behind the then-popular Canadian mobile line. It is set to hit AMC and AMC+ on November 13.

“Inspired by an Insane, Outrageous, Idiotic, and Genius True Story”

BlackBerry explores the creation of the now-defunct phone company and how the rise of Androids and Apple contributed to its downfall. The synopsis for the film — now a TV show — reads: “The true story of the meteoric rise and catastrophic demise of the world’s first smartphone, the film is a whirlwind ride through a ruthlessly competitive Silicon Valley at breakneck speeds.”

The film stars Baruchel and Howerton as BlackBerry founder Mike Lazaridis and investor Jim Balsillie alongside director Johnson as co-founder Doug Fregin. The rest of the cast includes Martin Donovan as Rick Brock, Rich Sommer as Paul Stannos, SungWon Cho as Ritchie Cheung, Michelle Giroux as Dara Frankel, Ben Petrie as Allan, Saul Rubinek as John Woodman, Cary Elwes as Carl Yankowski, Michael Ironside as Charles Purdy, and Mark Critch as Gary Bettman.
