What is Monarch: Legacy of Monsters?

“Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch,” reads the synopsis. “Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw, taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga — spanning three generations — reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.”

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is co-created and executive produced by Chris Black and Matt Fraction, with Black serving as the showrunner. It stars Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Kiersey Clemons, Anna Sawai, Anders Holm, Ren Watabe, Joe Tippett, Mari Yamamoto, and Elisa Lasowski. Executive producers are Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, Brad Van Arragon, Hiro Matsuoka, Andrew Colville, Takemasa Arita, and Andy Goddard.

Following the success of Godzilla vs. Kong, which earned over $467 million at the worldwide box office, Legendary began expansion talks in the MonsterVerse through a series, with Apple immediately showing interest in the project. Apart from the upcoming TV adaptation, the studio will also release the fifth installment to the blockbuster film franchise titled Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which is currently slated for a 2024 release.
