Netflix Cancels 5 Shows, Including Glamorous and Agent Elvis

While most streaming platforms are adjusting to the new media landscape post-WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Netflix has already canceled five original shows, Deadline first reported. The streamer decided not to renew two of its live-action series, Glamorous and Shadow and Bone, along with its three adult animated shows, Agent Elvis, Farzar, and Captain Fall.

This comes as shocking news, considering that Netflix has been refraining from canceling its shows during the strikes. In fact, the streamer has recently announced the renewal of some of its shows, including One Piece, Ginny & Georgia, Heartstopper, The Night Agent, and The Lincoln Lawyer, among others.

Most shows were canceled after one season

According to Deadline, there were plenty of factors that resulted in the series’ cancellation. Captain Fall, for one, failed to garner a large viewership after its first run. It tells the story of “a goofy, gullible sea captain” who was hired to do an illicit smuggling operation on a high-end cruise ship.

All of the shows were also canceled after only one season, excluding Shadow and Bone, which — to say the least — lasted for two seasons. Glamorous, starring Kim Cattrall and Miss Benny, was apparently canceled after failing to deliver the number of viewers required to thrust it forward for Season 2. The synopsis for Glamorous reads: “Aspiring influencer Marco lands a dream job with a makeup mogul and begins a dazzling journey of self-discovery amid work chaos and romantic challenges.”

The adult animated comedy Agent Elvis follows titular character Elvis (voiced by Matthew McConaughey) as he “trades his jumpsuit for a jetpack when he joins a secret spy program to stop villains from destroying the world.” On the other hand, Farzar revolves around Prince Fichael’s journey to “rid the planet of evil;” however, he soon learns that his “dad’s the biggest evildoer of them all.”

While Shadow and Bone Season 1 managed to draw large audiences, the second season seemingly failed to draw another massive viewership number, given that filming the show — which is a considerably expensive show to make — requires an enormous budget.
