James Bond: Christopher Nolan Addresses Rumors That He’s Directing a 007 Movie

Christopher Nolan says there’s “no truth” to the rumors that he’s directing a James Bond movie.

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Nolan briefly spoke about the recent wave of online rumors claiming he might be in talks to direct a James Bond movie.

“No,” he said. “Sadly, no. No truth to those rumors, but very thrilled the [SAG-AFTRA] strike is over and that we can all go back to work.”

What’s next for James Bond?

Bond’s last outing was 2021’s No Time to Die, which marked Daniel Craig’s final stint as 007. There are plans for a reboot; however, franchise producer Barbara Broccoli told The Guardian in October 2023 that they “haven’t even begun” developing the next chapter of Bond.

“Daniel gave us the ability to mine the emotional life of the character . . . and also the world was ready for it,” Broccoli said. “I think these movies reflect the time they are in, and there’s a big, big road ahead reinventing it for the next chapter and we haven’t even begun with that.”

Broccoli also added, “Our focus is making the feature films. When we get going on a Bond movie it takes our full attention for three or four years so that’s our focus.”

At this time, there’s been no official announcement about any director or star attached to the next Bond movie.

Meanwhile, Nolan’s latest movie, Oppenheimer, was recently released on digital and Blu-ray on November 21, 2023. The film stars Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, while Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., and Josh Hartnett, among others, also star in the film. Oppenheimer made over $950 million at the global box office, making it the third highest-grossing movie of 2023 so far following Barbie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
