Lord of War Sequel Production Date Window Revealed

The sequel to 2005’s Lord of War is scheduled to begin production next year according to a report from Variety.

Speaking to Variety, Kasbah Films’ producer Karim Debbagh noted that the film is currently starting to scout for locations across Morocco, with production expected to begin in March.

“We’re trying to cover four or five African countries, such as Libya, Egypt, Senegal and Mali and several countries in the Middle East, and we’ve almost found everything in Morocco,” said Debbagh. “Casablanca itself is so diverse,” Debbagh continued, “that you find areas that look like Senegal and others that are very luxurious like a California neighborhood, and if you’re looking for places that look similar to Libya, Yémen or Syria, you can find them in and around Marrakech.”

Variety’s report also mentions that the crew for the sequel will comprise of 400-500 members, and that production is expected to last about 40 days.

What was Lord of War about?

“Lords of War finds Orlov (Cage), the world’s most notorious gunrunner, as he discovers that he has a son, Anton (Skarsgård), who is trying to top his dad,” reads the synopsis. “Anton is amassing a mercenary army to fight America’s Middle East conflicts. This triggers an inter-generational bitter rivalry, one that pits father and son against each other.”

The project will be produced by Nicolas Cage for Saturn Films, along with original producers Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi for Vendôme Pictures. Skarsgård is also set to executive produce.

The original film was inspired by the real-life stories of Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout. It also starred Ethan Hawke, Jared Leto, and Bridget Moynahan.
