Superman: Legacy Script Is ‘Essentially Done,’ James Gunn Says

Superman: Legacy director James Gunn has revealed that the script for the upcoming Superman movie is “essentially done” and has been for a while.

The filmmaker and Co-CEO of DC Studios was asked how far along the script for the upcoming DC Universe movie was on the social media platform Threads. He said it’s already “99.9%” complete and has been since before this year’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but that he’s always altering tiny aspects of it.

“99.9%. I’m always changing small things but it’s been essentially done since well before the strike,” Gunn explained.

The director also debunked a casting rumor for Andy Muschietti’s The Brave and the Bold. The rumor was that Jensen Ackles was in talks to play Batman, but Gunn shut this down by stating that the film doesn’t even have a script yet.

“There’s no script yet,” Gunn stated. “Ofc it’s false.”

Who is starring in Superman: Legacy?

The titular role in Superman: Legacy is being played by David Corenswet (Pearl, The Politician), while Lois Lane will be played by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan. They’re joined by Nicholas Hoult, Skyler Gisondo, María Gabriela De Faría, Sara Sampaio, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, and more. The film is set to release on July 11, 2025.
