Angelina Jolie has signed on to star in a third Maleficent movie.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Jolie is officially signed on to star in a third live-action Maleficent movie. No other details about the project were given at this time.

Released in 2014, Maleficent is a live-action retelling of 1959’s Sleeping Beauty. The film, directed by Robert Stromberg, starred Jolie in the titular role, while Elle Fanning played Aurora/Sleeping Beauty, Sharlto Copley played Stefan, Lesley Manville played Flittle, Imelda Staunton played Knotgrass, Juno Temple played Thistlewit, and Sam Riley played Diaval.

Jolie was also an executive producer on Maleficent, which made $758.5 million at the global box office based on a budget of approximately $180 million.

What was the Maleficent sequel about?

A sequel, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, followed in October 2019. Joachim Rønning took over directing duties, while Jolie, Fanning, Staunton, Manville, Riley, and Temple all reprised their respective roles in the film. Additionally, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil added Michelle Pfeiffer as Queen Ingirth, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Conall, and Ed Skrein as Borra joined the cast.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil made slightly less than the first film at the global box office, bringing in $491.7 million off of a budget of $186 million.
