Andre Braugher Cause of Death Revealed for Beloved Actor

Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andre Braugher’s cause of death has been confirmed by the late actor’s representative.

How did Andre Braugher die?

Braugher’s representative (via Deadline) confirmed that the beloved actor passed away a few months after being diagnosed with lung cancer. The original statement of his passing said the actor died following a “brief illness,” which is now known to be lung cancer.

Braugher was born in Chicago on July 1, 1962. He graduated from Stanford University with a BA in theatre in 1984. Braugher subsequently graduated from the Juilliard School in 1988. He then made his big-screen debut as Cpl. Thomas Searles in director Edward Zwick’s 1989 Civil War film Glory.

Braugher went on to star as Detective Frank Pembleton on NBC’s 1993-1998 police drama Homicide: Life on the Street. (Brabson co-starred as his on-screen wife, Mary Pembleton). His performance earned him an NAACP Image Award, a Satellite Award, two TCA Awards, and a Primetime Emmy Award. Braugher later added a second Primetime Emmy to his shelf thanks to his role as Nick Atwater in the 2006 FX miniseries Thief.

In 2013, Braugher began playing Raymond Holt on the aforementioned police comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The show concluded in 2021 after eight seasons. Along the way, he picked up two Critics’ Choice Television Awards.
