The Rolling Stones TV Series Cut at FX, Producer Exploring Other Options

A planned TV series chronicling the hit band The Rolling Stones is no longer in the works at FX, with its producer now exploring other ways to have the show made.

Speaking to Deadline, Andy Harries — who is also a producer on the hit Netflix series The Crown — spoke about the show’s future, revealing that it was cut at FX due to budgetary cutbacks from Disney.

“It’s not in with FX [anymore], unfortunately,” Harries said. “It did take a tumble out because of the cutbacks at Disney. It was just too expensive and too ambitious for the immediate agenda. John Landgraf was really effusive about the scripts and ambition for the show, but he just didn’t feel that he was going to be able to get it greenlit in the next two years.”

Harries wouldn’t rule out a return to FX in the future but did say that he is having “conversations” about the future of the show with other brands now.

“I’m having live-ish conversations,” he said. “It really needs a writer with a specific vision for it. It needs a showrunner attached who’s got the time and the energy and is totally absorbed by it.”

What do we know about The Rolling Stones TV show?

Back in 2020, a limited drama series based on the iconic band was reported to be in the works by the team behind The Crown. The series was said to focus on the band’s biggest years between its formation through 1972, which saw the band produce some of the most memorable and legendary songs ever in the process.

At the time, the series was reported to be written by Nick Hornby, who wrote the novel High Fidelity, which was adapted into the hit 2000 romantic comedy starring John Cusack. As of now, no new information has been revealed for the series, so it’s unknown where it stands in terms of production.
