Wolf Man: Julia Garner Joins Cast of Blumhouse Remake

Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actress Julia Garner has officially joined the cast of Leigh Whannell’s upcoming Wolf Man remake, according to a report from Variety.

Garner will join a cast that already has Christopher Abbott — who replaced Ryan Gosling in the starring role of the film — set as a leading role. Currently, no other information on the cast of the film is known. Garner and Abbott have some chemistry together, having both starred in 2011’s Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene.

Garner is best known for her star-raising performance as Ruth Langmore in the hit Netflix drama Ozark, for which she won three Emmy awards. She also played real-life con artist Anna Delvey in the limited series Inventing Anna, for which she also drew multiple award nominations for. Most recently, she starred in 2023’s The Royal Hotel.

What do we know about Wolf Man?

Gosling was originally circling Wolf Man in May 2020. At the time, Gosling was in talks to play an anchorman who gets infected, with the script being compared to 1976’s Network and 2014’s Nightcrawler.

Plot details are being kept under wraps at this time. The script comes from Whannell, Corbett Tuck, Lauren Schuker Blum, and Rebecca Angelo. Jason Blum is producing the movie, while Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner, and Whannell serve as executive producers alongside Gosling.

Whannell is known for writing a number of James Wan horror movies, including 2004’s Saw, 2007’s Dead Silence, and 2010’s Insidious. He made his directorial debut in 2015 with Insidious: Chapter 3 before he went on to direct 2018’s Upgrade and, most recently, 2020’s The Invisible Man with Elisabeth Moss. He also received a story credit for 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door, which was directed by Patrick Wilson.

Abbott, meanwhile, is known for playing roles in 2017’s It Comes at Night, 2018’s First Man, 2020’s Possessor, and 2022’s Sanctuary. He can currently be seen in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, which is getting a wide release in the United States on December 22, 2023, and will also appear in 2024’s Kraven the Hunter.
