Monsters Season 2 Adds Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny to Netflix True Crime Series

Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny have joined Monster Season 2 at Netflix, playing the parents of the infamous Menéndez brothers.

Monster Season 2 Cast Grows

Cooper Koch (Swallowed) and Nicholas Alexander Chavez (General Hospital) had already been cast as the brothers Erik and Lyle Menéndez.

Monsters, co-created and executive-produced by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, tells the real-life stories of monstrous figures who have impacted society. Season 2 will center on an infamous murder case from the early 1990s, involving two brothers from a wealthy family who were convicted of killing their parents.

The real-life story of the Menéndez brothers began in 1989, when José and Kitty were shot multiple times with a shotgun at their Beverly Hills mansion. Their children, Lyle and Erik Menendez, weren’t originally under suspicion. However, due to the siblings excessive spending following the deaths of their parents, they were ultimately pointed out as potential suspects. The prosecution accused them of killing their parents for their inheritance. During the highly publicized trials, the brothers revealed that they both suffered physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of their father, which compelled them to murder their parents out of fear for their lives.

In 1996, Lyle and Erik Menendez were officially sentenced to life in prison. According to the outlet, Netflix also has “exclusive access” to the brothers for an upcoming documentary about the controversial case.

Sevigny will be reunited with Ryan Murphy, who she worked with on multiple seasons of American Horror Story. She’s best known for films such as American Psycho, Zodiac, and Boys Don’t Cry and shows such as Russian Doll. Javier Bardem is well known for roles in No Country For Old Men, Dune, Skyfall, and mother!

Titled as Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, the first season starred Evan Peters (American Horror Story), Niecy Nash (Scream Queens), Penelope Ann Miller (American Crime), Shaun J. Brown (Run), and Colin Ford (Daybreak), as well as Oscar winner Richard Jenkins. For his performance as the titular serial killer, Peters won a Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Miniseries.
