Game of Thrones Showrunners Reveal What They Would Change About HBO Series

HBO’s Game of Thrones infamously ended in a divisive way, with fans unhappy over how some moments played out. According to the series’ two showrunners, there are some things they would do differently.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, David Benioff and Dan Weiss noted that they would change something if they could, although it’s almost certainly nothing fans were thinking.

“One thing I know I wish we could have done is there’s the character Mord the Jailer,” Benioff said.

“It was a mistake not bringing Mord the Jailer back into it,” Weiss added.

“We always talked about doing it,” Benioff noted. “There’s a scene set in a tavern. . .”

“But we realized too late that Mord could have owned the tavern,” Weiss remembered. “We could have had that actor in the background acting exactly the way he did as a jailer, except now as a small business owner. It was just such an obvious, no-brainer, day-after idea.”

Game of Thrones ended in a divisive way

While fans may have been anticipating news of a potential ninth season or for revisions of the eighth season, it seems as if both creators decided to take a more light-hearted approach to the question.

After being one of the most successful television shows in history, Game of Thrones came to an end in 2019, with a final season that many have said ended in a more divisive way than fans imagined. At the time, many were unhappy about how certain events played out and how short the season was (at just 6 episodes) compared to any other season.

Despite the unhappiness, Game of Thrones remains one of the most decorated and popular series today. Currently, a spin-off series, House of the Dragon, is working on its second season for HBO. Other spin-off series, including a sequel series based on Jon Snow, are also in the works in collaboration with author George R.R. Martin.
