Hapless Sets Peacock Release Date

The British dark comedy Hapless will be heading stateside after Peacock acquired the streaming rights for the Tim Downie-led series. All 14 episodes from seasons one and two are set to arrive on the streamer on April 10.

Developed by Gary Sinyor (Leon the Pig Farmer), Hapless stars Downie (Outlander) as freelance journalist Paul Green, who take himself into the most awkward — and most embarrassing — situations.

What is Hapless about?

Across both seasons, Hapless — often compared to Curb Your Enthusiasm — centers on Paul Green as he navigates his career as a journalist in The Jewish Enquirer, a fictional Jewish company dubbed the fourth largest publication in the United Kingdom. Although he possesses undeniable journalistic skills, his disastrous personality frequently places him in awkward situations.

“The goal of Hapless has always been to unite viewers through laugh-out-loud comedy. Peacock has been a great partner by bringing my off-beat British/Jewish humor combo to the States which is the ultimate home of long-running classic sitcoms. I hope my particular brand of storytelling will appeal to our American cousins on the left, right and centre. Frankly, you could do with a laugh,” Sinyor said in a statement (via Deadline).

In addition to Downie, Hapless also stars stand-up comedian Josh Howie, Jeany Spark (Black Mirror), Mike Fenton Stevens (Slow Horses), and Sally Phillips (How to Please a Woman). Fred Films/Blue Penguin TV’s James Spring serves as the show’s executive producer.

Seasons 1 and 2 of the critically acclaimed sitcom will be available to stream on Peacock starting April 10.
