Atsu signed a five-year contract with Chelsea in 2014 and was subsequently sent on loan to Vitesse Arnhem for the 2014–15 season. During his time there, he played a crucial role in Vitesse Arnhem’s victory in the KNVB Cup. Following that, Atsu was loaned to Málaga for the 2015–16 season, where he showcased his skills by making 38 appearances and scoring 6 goals.

After being loaned to Newcastle United in 2016, Atsu proved invaluable to the team throughout the 2016-17 season.
