New City Hunter Trailer Previews Action-Packed Adaptation of Tsukasa Hojo’s Manga

Netflix has released a new trailer for the live-action adaptation of City Hunter, a classic manga of the same name created by Tsukasa Hojo. Starring Ryohei Suzuki as Ryo Saeba, the upcoming film is set to hit the streamer on April 25, 2024.

The second trailer for City Hunter reintroduces the beloved character named Ryo Saeba, an exceptional marksman with a contradicting personality. Directed by Yuichi Satoh, the film will be entirely based on a popular manga that has sold over 50 million copies.

Joining Suzuki in the cast are Misato Morita as the heroine Kaori Makimura, Masanobu Ando as Ryo’s partner Hideyuki Makimura, and Fumino Kimura as detective Saeko Nogami.

What is City Hunter about?

The forthcoming Netflix film will revolve around the notorious Ryo Saeba and his adventures navigating the gloomy depths of modern-day Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Per the upcoming movie’s official synopsis, Ryo Saeba “is a sweeper based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, who cleans up trouble in the gritty underworld. Although he’s an unparalleled playboy who struggles to keep his cool around beautiful women, when he accepts a request, he carries it out with crack marksmanship, impressive athletic abilities, and a calm composure.”

In 1986, Weekly Shōnen Jump serialized the City Hunter manga, which was later adapted into an anime in 1987. Due to the anime’s success, Hojo’s best-selling work has inspired several adaptations, including spin-offs and television specials, as well as live-action adaptations in countries such as South Korea, France, and Hong Kong.

Hailing from Horipro and Office Shirous, Satoh will direct the live-action adaptation based on a screenplay by Tatsuro Mishima. Keisuke Sanpei and Kosuke Oshida serve as the upcoming movie’s producers, while Shinichi Takahashi serves as the executive producer.

City Hunter arrives on Netflix on April 25.
