The Movie Critic: Quentin Tarantino Was Reportedly Eying David Krumholtz for a Role

David Krumholtz was reportedly being eyed for a role in Quentin Tarantino’s The Movie Critic.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oppenheimer’s Krumholtz was reportedly being considered for a role in The Movie Critic, which would have been Tarantino’s tenth (when viewing 2003’s Kill Bill: Volume 1 and 2004’s Kill Bill: Volume 2 as one movie) and final film.

News broke last week, however, that Tarantino no longer plans to make The Movie Critic and is now searching for a different project for his swan song.

It’s unclear how large of a part Krumholtz could have had in the film. The Hollywood Reporter’s article also mentions that Tarantino recently had a conversation with Olivia Wilde, though it’s uncertain whether it was for a potential role in the film or just a “general conversation.”

What would have The Movie Critic been about?

Tarantino previously said The Movie Critic would be “based on a guy who really lived but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag.” It would have been set in the 1970s and reportedly would have seen Brad Pitt reprise his role as Cliff Booth from 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tarantino was considering having other characters from his previous film show in The Movie Critic as well. “Another idea was that the film could include a movie theater where some characters could potentially interact with a budding future auteur — such as a 16-year-old Tarantino, who worked as an usher at a Torrence porn theater,” the article reads.

While there were rumors floating around that Paul Walter Hauser and Tom Cruise might star in The Movie Critic, The Hollywood Reporter states that neither actor was ever involved with the project.

Tarantino has several unmade projects he could make for his final film instead of The Movie Critic, including an R-rated Star Trek movie; however, the director hasn’t made any formal announcements about what he intends to do next.
