The Batman Part II First Details Revealed by Matt Reeves
Matt Reeves has offered up The Batman Part II first details, revealing just what the sequel may bring when it releases in 2026.
What did Matt Reeves say about The Batman Part II?
Speaking to SFX Magazine in a new interview, Reeves said that the film is going to “dig into the epic story” of Gotham City, and explore the corruption of the city in an even deeper way. He also teased that it’ll go in directions people can’t expect.
“It’s going to dig into the epic story about deeper corruption and it goes into places he couldn’t even anticipate in the first one,” said Reeves. He also mentioned that the film will “never go full fantastical” in terms of how some of Batman’s villains and characters are portrayed.
“What was important to me was to find a way to take these pop icons, these mythic characters that everybody knows, and translate it so that Gotham feels like a place in our world … It’s meant to feel quite grounded,” Reeves said.
Little else is known about the plot of The Batman Part II so far, though Robert Pattinson is set to return as the titular Dark Knight. The first film did tease the Joker and leave the Riddler alive at Arkham, so one or both of these iconic antagonists could make a return. Just last month, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn debunked a rumor about who the sequel’s villains could be, as well as the possible introduction of Dick Grayson/Robin.
The first film, The Batman, stars Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as GCPD’s James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Ferrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin.
