Bill Hader Working on New HBO Comedy Series With Barry Writer
After the success of Barry, Bill Hader is headed back to HBO. According to Variety, Hader and Barry writer Duffy Boudreau are teaming up to develop a new comedy series at HBO. Hader and Boudreau will serve as co-writers and executive producers on the project.
What is Bill Hader’s HBO Comedy About?
The logline per Variety reads, “A woman in a small town has a big secret revealed.” No other plot or character details have been revealed.
Hader and Boudreau worked together on Barry, HBO’s black comedy about a hitman attempting to become a Hollywood actor. Hader co-created Barry with Alec Berg, and starred in the lead role of Barry Berkman. Hader was also an executive producer who wrote and directed multiple episodes. Boudreau started as a writer on Barry before eventually becoming a co-executive producer.
Debuting in March 2018, Barry ran for four seasons on HBO. The show received 44 Emmy nominations, with all four seasons recognized in the Outstanding Comedy Series category. Hader won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series twice, while co-star Henry Winkler won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his work in season 1.
Hader rose to prominence as a cast member on Saturday Night Live for eight seasons. Hader’s notable films include Superbad, Trainwreck, Inside Out, and It Chapter Two. Hader recently provided his voice for John Krasiniski’s IF. The comedian will also voice The Cat in the animated film, The Cat in the Hat.
Besides Barry, Boudreau worked with Hader on Documentary Now. Boudreau has written episodes of Netflix’s animated comedy Big Mouth and Hulu’s animated series Hit-Monkey.
