James Van Der Beek Diagnosed With Cancer, Issues Statement
Actor James Van Der Beek revealed that he has been privately battling against colorectal cancer for an undisclosed time.
In a recent interview with People, Van Der Beek, 47, said that he had been diagnosed with the illness and was in the process of trying to resolve it along with the help and support of his family. Despite the prospect of the diagnosis, Van Der Beek said that he’s feeling good and is remaining optimistic.
What did Van Der Beek say about his cancer diagnosis?
“I have colorectal cancer. I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family,” Van Der Beek said. “There’s reason for optimism, and I’m feeling good.”
Van Der Beek is best known for starring in the hit The WB series Dawson’s Creek as the titular Dawson Leery. He also had big roles on the ABC sitcom Don’t Trust the B—– in Apartment 23, CSI: Cyber, and the FX series Pose. His film credits include roles in movies like Varsity Blues, Scary Movie, The Rules of Attraction, and more.
Later this year, Van Der Beek will star in a two-hour Fox special called The Real Full Monty, in which he, Anthony Anderson, Taye Diggs, NFL player Chris Jones, Tyler Posey, and Dancing with the Stars judge Bruno Tonioli will raise awareness for prostate, testicular, and colorectal cancer testing and research. The special will culminate with a striptease act amongst the attendees.
