Oscar nominee Colin Farrell has once again addressed the possibility of him returning for a potential The Penguin Season 2. This comes after the HBO series has just dropped its Season 1 finale, which is now available for streaming on Max.

What did Colin Farrell say about The Penguin Season 2?

After previously expressing his desire to no longer play the titular DC villain in a potential Season 2 or in The Batman Part II, it seems like Farrell has finally changed his mind about this. During a recent interview, the acclaimed Irish actor admitted that he would only consider returning for The Penguin Season 2 if the story would surpass Season 1. His decision may have been influence by the positive reviews that the show has been getting. It currently holds a 95% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

“If there’s a great idea [for season two], and the writing was really muscular and as strong or stronger on the page than it was the first season, of course, I would do it,” Farrell said (via THR). “For me, the bar for success is not very high. It’s, ‘Do most people like it?’ — just the simplicity of that. I love being in things that are critically approved — it’s much better than the alternative — but I’ve been around long enough [to know] that it’s the audience who are really the most important critics.”

The Penguin chronicles Cobb’s rise to power in Gotham’s seedy underbelly, giving fans a look into how he becomes the formidable crime kingpin he’s known to be. The series is written and executive produced by showrunner Lauren LeFranc, with The Batman director Matt Reeves also executive producing.
