Nosferatu Rating Promises Lots of Blood, Contains Graphic Nudity
The official MPA rating for 2024’s Nosferatu has been revealed.
Nosferatu will be released in United States theaters next month. Directed by Robert Eggers (The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman), the film is a reimagining of the silent German movie of the same name, which was released in 1922.
What is the MPA rating for Nosferatu?
Per Film Ratings, the Motion Picture Association (MPA) has given Nosferatu an R rating for “bloody violent content, graphic nudity and some sexual content.” All three of Eggers’ previous movies were also rated R.
The synopsis for Nosferatu reads, “Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.”
The cast of the movie includes Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok, Nicholas Hoult as Thomas Hutter, Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Hutter, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Friedrich Harding, Emma Corrin as Anna Harding, Willem Dafoe as Prof. Albin Eberhart Von Franz, Ralph Ineson as Dr. Wilhelm Sievers, and Simon McBurney as Herr Knock.
Eggers wrote the script for Nosferatu. He also serves as a producer on the movie alongside Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Chris Columbus, and Eleanor Columbus.
The director previously told Total Film about the vampire flick, “We’ve gone all the way to Edward Cullen, where vampires are not scary. So how do we go in the complete opposite direction of that? Vampires were scary enough that people used to dig up corpses and chop them into bits and set them on fire…I think we deserve a scary, smelly corpse again.”
Focus Features’ Peter Kujawski also previously said about the movie, “The audacious filmmaking of Robert Eggers is always a gift for fans, and we can promise that his Nosferatu is planning quite the Christmas feast.”
Nosferatu will be released in United States theaters on December 25, 2024, from Focus Features.
