Samuel L. Jackson Joins Cast of New J.J. Abrams Movie in Key Role

Samuel L. Jackson has been tapped to play a key role in J.J. Abrams’ new movie.

Abrams, who is known for directing films in both the Star Wars and Star Trek franchises, is currently working on a new movie that is expected to begin filming in the spring of 2025.

So far, the cast of the movie includes Glen Powell (Twisters, Anyone But You), Jenna Ortega (Scream, Wednesday), and Emma Mackey (Sex Education, Barbie).

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Jackson is now in negotiations to play a character in Abrams’ film, which will be released through Warner Bros. Specific details are being kept under wraps at this time, though The Hollywood Reporter says it will be a “key role.”

What else do we know about J.J. Abrams’ next movie with Samuel L. Jackson?

Not much is known about the plot of Abrams’ next film. The Hollywood Reporter’s article notes, “At one point it was speculated to involve time travel, but sources say that is not the case.”

Abrams’ Bad Robot is producing the movie. A release date has not yet been set.

Jackson will soon be seen playing a character named Doaker Charles in Malcolm Washington’s The Piano Lesson, which will be released on Netflix tomorrow, November 22, 2024. He also played Alfred Solomon in Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle earlier this year and voiced Garfield’s estranged father Vic in The Garfield movie.

He also stars alongside Pierce Brosnan in Richard Gray’s The Unholy Trinity, which held its world premiere at the Zurich Film Festival last month, while he’s additionally been cast in J. J. Perry’s Afterburn and Renny Harlin’s The Beast.

Abrams, meanwhile, made his feature film directorial debut in 2006 with Mission: Impossible III. He then went on to direct 2009’s Star Trek, 2011’s Super 8, 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and, most recently, 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
