Scream Star in Talks To Join Mike Flanagan’s Carrie TV Show Cast
With Mike Flanagan’s Carrie TV show slowly taking shape, having been officially greenlit in April, another name is now in talks to join the project following the announcement of Summer H. Howell being eyed to star as Carrie White.
Per Deadline, Scream star Matthew Lillard — who can next be seen in Scream 7 — is in talks to join Amazon MGM Studios’ adaptation of Stephen King’s debut novel Carrie. The role Lillard may potentially play in the series has not been revealed yet.
Who else is being eyed to star in Mike Flanagan’s Carrie TV show?
Apart from Howell (Curse of Chucky, Cult of Chucky), Resident Evil’s Siena Agudong is also being eyed to play Sue Snell. This makes Lillard the third name to be brought on board, as the project remains in the early stages of casting. Should Lillard sign on to star in the series, it will mark his next project with Flanagan; Lillard played Gus Wilfong in another King adaptation, titled The Life of Chuck.
Flanagan will also write and executive produce the Carrie television series, in addition to directing episodes. It will consist of eight episodes. The plot description for the Carrie adaptation reads as follows:
“A bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White (Howell), who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public high school, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.”
Flanagan’s Carrie series serves as the fifth project based on the classic novel of King, following Brian De Palma’s cult 1976 Carrie movie, The Rage: Carrie 2, the 2002 Carrie, and the Chloë Grace Moretz-led 2013 Carrie.
The premiere date for Flanagan’s Carrie has yet to be announced.
