Little House on the Prairie Cast Finds Laura Ingalls for Netflix Show
A few hours later, and Netflix has officially announced that they have rounded out the cast for the Ingalls family. Luke Bracey (Elvis, Hacksaw Ridge) will play Charles Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald (Crime 101) will play Caroline Ingalls, and Skywalker Hughes (I) will play Mary Ingalls.
Original Story: Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie cast has officially found its Laura Ingalls, with the streamer announcing one of its first casting moves.
Who has joined the cast of Little House on the Prairie?
Alice Halsey (Days of Our Lives) has been cast by Netflix to play the role of Laura in the upcoming series. In real life, Laura Ingalls Wilder is the actual author of the children’s series that the show is based on, which is centered around the Ingalls family and their life on a farm in Minnesota during the 1870s-1890s.
In the original Little House on the Prairie, Laura was played by Melissa Gilbert. In the new show, Laura is described as “observant, tender, strong-willed, hot-tempered. She resists the bounds of 19th-century ladylike behavior — she likes to run barefoot and feel the sun on her face. She is curious and optimistic and fearless, like her father; resourceful and hardworking and honest, like her mother. She is quick to call out anyone who is cruel or unjust. She loves fiercely and unapologetically and is utterly devoted to her dog, Jack.”
Other casting information for the series is not available as of yet, nor is any release information for the planned reboot.
The Little House On the Prairie reboot will be executive produced by showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys, Vampire Diaries), whose love for the original book series inspired her to become a writer and a filmmaker. The project will also be executive produced by Joy Gorman Wettels for Joy Coalition, Dana Fox, Susanna Fogel, and Trip Friendly for Friendly Family Productions. The latter’s father, former NBC executive Ed Friendly, was the one who acquired the film and TV rights to Wilder’s novel series in 1972.
“It has been a long-held dream of mine to carry on my father’s legacy and adapt Wilder’s classic American stories for a 21st-century audience in a way that brings together fans of both the books and the original television series,” Friendly said in a statement. “I am thrilled by our talented creative team led by Rebecca Sonnenshine, who are bringing these beloved stories about family, community, and survival to longtime fans and new generations.”
The original show was developed by Blanche Hanalis, with Ed Friendly executive producing. It starred Michael Landon, Karen Grassle, Melissa Gilbert, Melissa Sue Anderson, Lindsay Sidney Greenbush, and more. The drama ran on-air for nine seasons from 1974 to 1983.
