Jesse Armstrong’s Mountainhead was an extremely quick turnaround for Succession creator, according to HBO CEO Casey Bloys.

What did HBO’s CEO say about Mountainhead?

Speaking to Matthew Belloni during a recent appearance on his The Town podcast, Bloys was asked about the last texts he’s received. The CEO mentioned that he had spoken to Armstrong about the upcoming movie, then revealed that Armstrong essentially made and edited the movie in less than a week.

“Jesse Armstrong just locked his movie Mountainhead,” said Bloys. “It was a crazy experiment. He pitched it in December, wrote it, shot it, edited it, over five days or something like that. We’re going to air in three weeks.”

Bloys said that the film — which sees four billionaires on a ski getaway while the world undergoes a financial crisis — was out so quick due to its timeliness.

Mountainhead is scheduled to make its debut on Saturday, May 31 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will be available to stream on Max.

The cast is led by Steve Carell (The Office) as Randall, Ramy Youssef (Ramy, Poor Things) as Jeff, Jason Schwartzman (Bored to Death) as Hugo Van Yalk, and Cory Michael Smith (Saturday Night, May December) as Venis. Additional supporting cast includes Hadley Robinson as Hester, Andy Daly as Casper, Ali Kinkade as Berry, Daniel Oreskes as Dr. Phipps, David Thompson as Leo, Amie MacKenzie as Janine, and Ava Kostia as Paula.

The HBO original movie is written and directed by Armstrong. During Succession’s four-season run, the acclaimed scribe won seven Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. He is also executive producing alongside Frank Rich, Lucy Prebble, Jon Brown, Tony Roche, Will Tracy, Mark Mylod, and Jill Footlick.
