Margot Robbie’s The Sims Movie Gets Update From Loki Director

Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming The Sims movie has finally received an update from writer Kate Herron, who previously directed the first season of the Disney+ series Loki. The live-action adaptation of Electronic Arts’ popular video game series hails from Oscar-nominated producer Margot Robbie for LuckyChap Entertainment.

At the moment, it’s still unclear if there are plans for Robbie to join the project as part of the cast. She most recently wrapped filming Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights movie, which will see the Barbie star playing the role of Catherine Earnshaw. Robbie is also currently attached to lead the romantic fantasy movie A Big Bold Beautiful Journey from Kogonada.

During a recent interview, Herron has shared the current progress of The Sims movie, confirming that the project is still in its writing phase. In addition, she also assured fans that everything is going well with the adaptation’s development.

“I’m just writing away, but we’re all feeling very good about it,” Herron said.

Herron recently directed the latest episode of The Last of Us Season 2. She revealed that the experience actually led her to learning something new from series creator Craig Mazin’s writing practices, which she has now been using for all of her upcoming projects.

She continued, “Craig writes the thoughts of the characters in the script. I love it, and I have 100% stolen that, and I’m now doing it in all the scripts I write. It’s such a good idea.”

The Sims movie will be directed by Herron, who is currently co-writing the screenplay with Briony Redman. Besides Robbie, LuckyChap’s Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara are also producing, alongside Roy Lee for Vertigo Entertainment. Electronic Arts is also involved in tthe movie’s creative and production process.
