Andor’s Adria Arjona Talks Bix’s Exit to Set up Rogue One

Adria Arjona has opened up about her character Bix Caleen’s emotional exit in Andor Season 2, revealing behind-the-scenes details about filming her final scenes. While Bix does not appear in Rogue One, the actress discussed how the show crafted her departure and the pressure she felt delivering a pivotal farewell speech that ties into Cassian’s larger journey.

In Andor Season 2 Episode 9, titled “Welcome to the Rebellion,” Bix Caleen exits the storyline, explaining her absence from Rogue One. After reuniting with Cassian on Yavin following the Ghorman Massacre, Bix leaves behind a recorded message, stating: “I have to leave. I have to go away. I’m not sure where, or for how long… I believe you have a purpose… I’m choosing the rebellion.”

Bix’s message highlights her choice to not interfere with Cassian’s role in the Rebellion. She adds, “If you were to give this up for me… I’d never forgive myself,” and concludes by saying, “And when it’s done, when it’s over and we have won… I’ll find you.” Her departure provides a narrative reason for why Bix does not appear in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Adria Arjona, who portrays Bix, revealed to TVLine that Andor creator Tony Gilroy informed her early about her character’s exit. “The beauty of Tony Gilroy is that he believes information is power, and he believes in informing his actors early on,” she said. “So before [Dan Gilroy] even wrote that speech, I remember [Tony] called me and sort of warned me about what was going to happen.”

Arjona was filming Netflix’s Hit Man when she learned about Bix’s fate but said that advance knowledge helped her process the character’s arc. “By the time that you read it, there’s a connectivity that is really interesting,” she noted.

Filming the goodbye scene was a high-pressure moment. “That speech… I was so scared of it,” Arjona admitted. “It was probably one of my scariest days on set, ever. Ever.”
